The "Nuclear Jug" developed from line drawings-sketching and still life studies of household objects and drinks containers. (The tetrapack in particular) These became enhanced through repeated drawing and later embellished, leading to flattened forms and enlarged spouts, pouring lips and handles. I was interested in the idea of vessels no longer having any real purpose or function, as so many cherished pieces of pottery are kept purely for show and often never even used. The jugs therefore became purely visual items- functionally quite useless, instead becoming a kind of modernistic ceremonial object.

My influences are varied and range from potters such as Elisabeth Fritsch, sculptors such as Barbara Hepworth and painters- mainly cubists, such as Ben Nicholson, William Scott and Picasso. Architectural and sculptural form has also dictated the forms.

All the work is currently still slab built from Earthstone Clay, which is fired twice, once to bisque temperature and once in the Raku kiln. Forms are replicated using card templates. This technique allows for subtle variations of form, and consequently ensures all the constructed pieces are unique originals.
